In Hebrews 3:12 it says, "Take care, brethren, lest their be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, leading you to fall away from the living God." When I am perfect in faith I shall be perfect in everything else; I should always fulfil … He actually comes to convict us of the sin of not believing on Jesus. This unbelief and idolatry is at the root of all sin, no matter how it manifests itself. The Holy Spirit convicts us of sin, but this does not mean He convicts people of the wrong things they do. There are three implications of this definition of sin which I want to try to drive home. God has already forgiven us of all our sins—even the ones we have not yet committed. Enjoy! Unbelief: The Root of Sin. Faith has more to do with trust and personal acceptance, deliberate acts of one’s will. If we aren’t believing then we aren’t trusting. If I don’t trust then I am not going to follow the directions He gives. If I don’t believe and trust them I am not going to act out in faith and without faith it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6). It is Mark 9 where you can read the story of Jesus healing this boy, or in Matthew 17 or Luke 9. It happened. Do you believe it? I know you know it happened. I know that you can read the text and see that it happened. Most of you would say that the Bible is the ultimate authority on all things about our faith and would claim that the Bible itself is inerrant, completely without error. Has that knowledge made the journey from you head and taken up residence in your heart? In the Bible, belief, or faith, is more than just thinking something is a fact. Out of this dissatisfaction and discontent come all acts of sin.
